The national flag of the United Arab Emirates contains three horizontal lines colored green, white and black with a red vertical band on the hoist. The green symbolizes fertility, red stands for unity, white represents neutrality and black signifies the color of the prophet of Islam Muhammad. The flag was adopted on December 2, 1971.
