ISLANDS
A high qality picture image of the Georgia
and Sandwich Islands Flag

The flag of the South Georgia and the South
Sandwich Islands contains a blue field with the Union
Jack on the canton and the coat of arms on the
flag. The Union Jack on the flag represents the
island's ties to Great Britain. The coat of arms
contains a golden lion in the middle holding a torch to
symbolize Great Britain. Holding the shield to the
left is a fur seal standing on a mountain and on the
right there is a macaroni penguin standing on
ice. On the top of the coat of arms there is a
reindeer. On a banner towards the bottom is the
national motto “Leo Terram Propriam Protegat” (let the
lion protect his own land). The flag was adopted in
1985 when it created its own territory separate of the
Falkland Islands.
