Flag

The flag of Singapore is a bicolor flag colored
red on top and white on the bottom. On the canton of the
flag there is a white crescent moon facing toward the fly
and a pentagon made up of five stars. The crescent moon is
said to represent a young nation on the ascendant while
the five stars symbolize the nation’s ideals of
democracy, peace, progress, justice and
equality.
The red color on the flag represents universal
brotherhood and the equality of man. The white stands for
pervading and everlasting purity and virtue. Singapore’s national
flag was first adopted on December 3, 1959 and was
reconfirmed on August 9, 1965 after Singapore gained full
independence.
