The national flag of Rwanda contains three horizontal bands colored blue, yellow and green.  At the top corner of the fly the flag contains a sun of a different shade of yellow from the band.  The sun on the flag symbolizes enlightenment.  The green on the flag represents the hope for prosperity and the yellow stands for economic development.  The blue on the flag represents peace and happiness.  The flag of Rwanda was changed and adopted in its current for on October 25, 2001 after the old flag was associated with the brutality of the Rwanda Genocide.
