Island State Flag
The flag of Rhode Island was officially adopted
in 1897. The
flag contains a white filed with a golden anchor in the
center and a blue ribbon with the word “hope” which is
the state motto. Encircling the anchor
there are thirteen stars symbolizing the thirteen
colonies and also Rhode Island as the thirteenth state to
ratify the constitution. The anchor and the word
below it are believed to have been inspired by the
Hebrews biblical phrase “hope we have as an anchor of the
soul”
