Flag of OKLAHOMA

State Flag

The current flag of Oklahoma was adopted on
April 2, 1925 to replace a previous flag that said to be
associated with communism because of its red
color. The
current design had the name Oklahoma added in 1941 as an
attempt to fight against illiteracy. On the flag there is a
traditional Osage Nation buffalo- skin shield with seven
eagle feathers on a light blue field. Over the shield are two
symbols representing peace. There is a peace pipe to
represent the Native Americans and the olive branch
representing the European Americans. The six brown crosses
are the Native American symbols for stars and the blue
field represents the first official flag flown by any
Native American Nation.
