The Flag of Niger was adopted on November 23,
1959. The
flag contains three horizontal bands colored orange,
white and green with a red disk in the center of the
white band.
The disk on
the center band represents the sun as well as
independence. The orange on the top
horizontal band symbolizes the Sahara Desert to the north
of the country. The white band on the
center of the flag symbolizes purity and is also believed
to represent the Niger River. The green at the bottom
represents hope and the fertile regions of
Niger.
