The flag of Myanmar (also known as Burma) contains a red field with a blue square in the canton.
Inside the blue square are fourteen stars encircling a cogwheel and a rice plant. The clog wheel symbolizes
industry and the rice plant symbolizes agriculture. The fourteen stars stand for the unity and
equality and the fourteen states of the union. The red on the flag represents courage, the white
represents purity and the blue stands for peace. The flag of Burma was adopted on January 3,
1974.
