Flag of the Marshall Islands

The national flag of the Marshall Islands symbolizes the islands location in the ocean.  The diagonal band represents the equator and the star represents the Northern Hemisphere Island.  The orange and white represent peace and courage but also symbolize the Ratak Chain (sunrise) and the Ralik Chain (sunset).  The four elongated points of the star represent the four main cultural centers of Majuro, Jaluit, Wotje and Ebeye.  The twenty four points of the star represent the electoral districts of the island.  The flag of the Marshall Islands was adopted on May 1, 1979.
