The national flag of the Marshall Islands
symbolizes the islands location in the ocean. The diagonal band
represents the equator and the star represents the
Northern Hemisphere Island. The orange and white
represent peace and courage but also symbolize the Ratak
Chain (sunrise) and the Ralik Chain (sunset). The four elongated
points of the star represent the four main cultural
centers of Majuro, Jaluit, Wotje and Ebeye. The twenty four points
of the star represent the electoral districts of the
island. The
flag of the Marshall Islands was adopted on May 1,
1979.
