The flag of Iran contains three horizontal bands
colored red, white and green. On the border of the
red and the green with the white, the phrase “Allahu
Akbar” (God is Great) is written 22 times. In the center of the
flag is the coat of arms of Iran. The coat of arms of
Iran is meant to resemble a red tulip in honor of those
who died for Iran. The logo contains four
crescents and a sword. The five parts of the
symbol represent the five principles of the religion of
Islam. The
four crescents on the stand for Allah as well as the
overlapping parts of the Islamic phrase “la ilaha illa
Allah” (there is no god but God). The flag of Iran was
adopted on July 29, 1980.
