Flag

The current flag of Georgia contains three
horizontal bands colored red and white with a blue square
on the canton with the state coat of arms. Around the coat of arms
are thirteen stars representing the original thirteen
colonies that formed the United States. The flag replace
the previous flag used from 1956 to 2001 which contained
the Confederate Battle flag on it. The flag was found
offensive because of its roots to the Confederate States
of America and its current use as a symbol for many white
supremacy groups. African –Americans
found it mostly offensive because it wasn’t adopted
during the Civil War but in 1956 during the Civil Rights
Movement.
