The current flag of Montana was
adopted in 1905. The flag contains a
blue field with the state seal in the center and the
inscription “Montana” which was added in
1981. On the
seal is a depiction of a plow, shovel and rick resting in
front of the Great Falls of the Missouri River. Also
depicted is a yellow ribbon with the state motto “Oro y
Plata” (Spanish for “Gold and Silver”.
