The flag of Ethiopia contains three horizontal bands that are colored green, yellow and red. In the center  of the flag is a blue circle with a star with rays on it. The blue represents peace and the star unit stands for diversity.  The green on the flag symbolizes hope and the land.  The color yellow symbolizes peace and love and the red color represents strength.  The flag was adopted on February 6, 1996.  The colors of the flag are the colors of African unity and were first used on a flag in 1895.
