The flag of The People`s Republic of China was adopted on September 27, 1949. The flag has a field of red with a large star and four smaller stars on the canton.  The red background symbolizes the blood of the heroes that died during the revolution.  The yellow represents the history and the culture of the Chinese people.  The five stars stand for the unity of the Chinese under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party.  The four stars to the side represent the four categories of the people of China which are workers, farmers, intellectuals and businessmen.
