CHECKRED Flag

The checkered flag is associated with
racing. The checkered flag is displayed at the
finish line to indicate the end of a race. The flag
is associated with the winner of the race since he/she is
the first to “take” the flag. A theory of the
origins of the checkered flag is that in the
19th Century it was used at bicycle races in
France. It is believed that a checkered flag was
chosen for racing because a single colored flag would be
harder to spot in a crowd than the checkered flag.
This was due to the fact tha back then the race tracks
where on dirt roads and thus made visibility harder
because of the dust in the air.
