The flag of Burundi contains three different colors.  The colors of the flag are green which symbolizes hope, white which stands for purity and red to represent the struggle for independence.  The flag has a white saltire which divides the flag into four parts and in the center a white circle with three stars.  The three stars represent the three ethnic groups of Burundi which are the Hutu, the Twa and the Tutsi.  The stars also represent the elements of the national motto, unity, work and progress.  The flag of Burundi was established on September 27, 1982.
