Flag of ANGOLA
A high qality image of the Angola
Flag

The flag of Angola was established on November
11, 1975. The flag contains two bands, one red and one
black. The red represents the bloodshed by the Angolans
during their independence struggles and the black
represents the continent of Africa. In the center
of the flag is a symbol of a crossed cog wheel (gear), a
machete and a star. The cog wheel represents the
workers and industry. The machete represents
peasantry. The symbol was adopted when Angola
adopted a Marxist Government and was made to resemble
that of the hammer and sickle that was used on the flag
of the former Soviet Union.
