The Flag of Alaska became the official flag of
Alaska on May 2, 1927. It continued to be the
Flag of Alaska even after becoming a State in 1959.
The flags design contains a blue field with eight
stars that depict the constellation the Big Dipper and the
North Star. The
Blue represents the blue Alaskan sky and the forget-me-not,
an Alaskan flower. The North Star represents
Alaska as it being the most northerly part of the
Union. The Big
Dipper represents the Great Bear which symbolizes
Strength.
