Flag of Alaska

The Flag of Alaska became the official flag of Alaska on May 2, 1927.  It continued to be the Flag of Alaska even after becoming a State in 1959.  The flags design contains a blue field with eight stars that depict the constellation the Big Dipper and the North Star.  The Blue represents the blue Alaskan sky and the forget-me-not, an Alaskan flower.  The North Star represents Alaska as it being the most northerly part of the Union.  The Big Dipper represents the Great Bear which symbolizes Strength.
